Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a structured form of therapy often used to treat trauma, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

During EMDR sessions, you’ll be guided to bring up difficult memories while also engaging in gentle bilateral stimulation, such as guided eye movements. This process helps reduce the emotional intensity of those memories, so they feel less overwhelming and intrusive.

Many people describe EMDR as helping the brain “reorganize” how it stores and responds to trauma, so that painful experiences no longer carry the same weight.

How much does a therapy counselling session cost?

The first session is an opportunity to connect and get to know each other. The therapist will introduce the policies and therapeutic approach, while the client will complete necessary forms, sign the agreement, and discuss their concerns.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) Therapy is an evidence-based treatment originally developed for trauma and PTSD. It has since been expanded to address anxiety, phobias, stress, OCD, depression, and more. The therapy uses bilateral eye movements to help desensitize traumatic memories, reduce their emotional impact, and reprocess them in a healthier way. Most clients experience a sense of relief and feel lighter and calmer after each session.

The number of sessions varies for each individual. Clients typically notice progress after every session, with significant improvement often seen within 8–12 sessions. However, some may benefit from ongoing therapy for deeper healing.
